"Beaks"? We don't need no stinkin' beaks!
(or tent stakes or poles for that matter)

Reinforced center tie outs allow a flat tarp to be set up sealed close to the
ground on the end. (This without the limiting shape of "beaks" or end panels that
other's marketing hype claim is the only self adjusting method for sealing off
the end of a tarp.) For those who want to go light (pun intended) but enjoy tarp
craft while using natural features to set up camp, a square or rectangular tarp can
be set up in many ways (see bottom of page). My standard flat tarps 8x10' and
larger come with 4 center tie outs like the 10x10' one pictured.

Backpacking Tarps

The lightest and most versatile of shelters, and can be used for a place for teaching out of the sun or rain. Their set up can inspire craftsmanship among students. They are used by many major outdoor schools and savvy go light backpackers everywhere. Our tarps are available in various weights of nylon with a thick waterproof coat of urethane. To add strength, sewn on webbing loops are used instead of grommets for tying the tarp out, and are reinforced with an extra layer of fabric at high stress points. The center tie out loops are made with webbing with a flashlight reflective tracer to help you find your tarp in the dark. For institutional use we recommend the thicker, sturdier 210 denier fabric with a thick 2 oz. urethane coating. For personal use the 70 denier fabric is lighter on your back and wallet and is also urethane coated. For ultralight tarps the silicone coated (some say impregnated) ripstop is the latest entry on the market. It is sturdy for its weight though requires a silicone based seam sealer which you can get at the hardware store or through OWARE (see below). Collapsible nesting six foot tall poles are available which fit in grommets at either end of the ridge line of the urethane tarps 10x10 ' and larger. Custom size tarps also available. See Fabrics for available colors and material. Please note that these tarps are flamable if exposed to flame. Go here for information on choosing a tarp color.

We make a variety of sizes and will be posting some of them here soon.

In the meantime, here are some phots for more information.
